Introducing GeoTasker.ai: AI-Powered Geospatial Storytelling
An overview of GeoTasker.ai, an AI platform that transforms any topic into narrated video stories with maps, animations, and data visualizations.
Creating compelling visual stories about places, events, and data has always required specialized skills: GIS expertise, video editing, motion graphics, and narration. That's why I'm building GeoTasker.ai.
The Problem
Whether you're a journalist covering geopolitical events, an educator explaining historical migrations, or a business analyst presenting regional data, creating map-based video content traditionally requires:
- Learning complex GIS and mapping tools
- Video editing software expertise
- Motion graphics for animations
- Recording or licensing voiceovers
- Hours of manual production work
This creates a significant barrier for anyone who needs to communicate spatial stories visually.
The Solution
GeoTasker.ai takes a fundamentally different approach. You describe what you want in plain language:
"Create a video explaining the geography and strategic importance of Greenland, showing its location relative to the US and Europe, with key statistics about its resources."
The AI understands your intent, researches the topic, generates a complete story, and produces a narrated video with:
- Animated maps with routes, markers, and polygons
- Data visualizations (charts, choropleths, comparisons)
- AI-generated narration in 32+ languages
- Background music matching the tone
- Professional captions and transitions
How It Works
Under the hood, GeoTasker uses a multi-agent AI architecture:
- Orchestrator - Understands your request and coordinates the workflow
- Geospatial Analyst - Researches locations, gathers data, creates map layers
- Story Creator - Writes the narrative, structures segments, designs visualizations
- Validator - Ensures accuracy and coherence before rendering
The system then renders everything using GPU-accelerated Mapbox animations, ElevenLabs narration, and FFmpeg for final video composition.
Example Use Cases
- Geopolitical explainers: Visualize territorial disputes, trade routes, military positioning
- Economic analysis: Show regional GDP, inflation patterns, market comparisons
- Historical narratives: Animate migrations, battles, empire expansions
- Educational content: Teach geography, climate patterns, demographics
- Business presentations: Regional performance, expansion plans, market analysis

Key technologies:
- AI: Claude (Opus/Sonnet) for understanding and content generation
- Rendering: Mapbox GL, Playwright for map capture, FFmpeg for composition
- Narration: ElevenLabs Turbo v2.5 (32 languages including Bengali)
- Infrastructure: FastAPI backend, Next.js frontend, Redis for state, GPU workers
What's Next
I'm actively developing GeoTasker.ai with a focus on:
- Segment-level editing: Preview and modify individual story segments
- More visualization types: Racing bar charts, flow maps, 3D terrain
- Custom data uploads: Bring your own GeoJSON, CSV, or shapefiles
- Team collaboration: Share and co-edit projects
